On the eastern part of mountain Istoni, next to the street from Corfu to Palaiokastritsa, at a height of 170 metres there is the traditional and well preservedvillage Doukades. It is 20 km away from Corfu town and the airport and approximately 4 km from Palaiokastritsa. A village at least four hundred years old.
The village is first mentioned in a notary act of 1616.
The name of the village, according to some researchers, derived from its first residents, who all had the surname Doukas.
You will certainly enjoy a walk through the village. You can also enjoy a good meal at the small restaurants which are at the central square.
You should definitely visit the renovated stone-made mansion of the Theotokis family , the Venetian "sagrado" of Quartanos , the Koraggios mansion as well as the more recent (late 19th - early 20th century) but particularly beautiful building of the Elementary School , at the entrance of the village, which played its own role during World War II.
At the entrance of the village there is a street with amazing panoramic view , which will take you to the hill of Agia Anna (2 km of asphalted road), where there is a cafe or to the isolated chapel of Ai Simios (1 kilometre of asphalted road and 1 km of gravel road) always in the amazing Mediterranean landscape
